College concert to raise funds for student bathrooms

Aana No. 2 College will hold a concert next Thursday to raise funds to build new bathrooms for student use as well as showcase student talent.

Principal, Iemaima Tiumalu Leiataua lesa, said there is a need for a new bathroom block to be built for the students and they hope next week's concert will enable them to raise the necessary funding for the building project.

“I had a talk with the teachers that we need to build new bathrooms beside the school hall for the students, whose classrooms are near the hall,” she said, in an interview with the Samoa Observer.

A meeting has been convened with the college committee – which comprises teachers and the college principal – on the proposed project.

Mrs. Leiataua said the concert is called “Faailo lupe mua o le seuga” which is Samoan for all preparations being done as one.

She said the concert will be the first one ever hosted by the college since its establishment and will be an opportunity for the students to showcase their talents.

“With this concert it will give a great opportunity for the students here in Aana No 2 College to showcase their talents of dancing, singing and more to the people."

Filemoni To’a, who is a teacher at the college, said the students have put a lot of their time into practicing and they are enjoying the experience in the lead-up to the event.

The concert has three categories: Samoa culture dance; gospel dance; and songs sung by the students.

Mrs. Leiataua said when they told the school about the concert, all their students wanted to participate in the event.

“Everybody want to take part in the concert but I told the junior level (students) that they are not going to take part, but only the senior level," she said.

The performances at the concert will be restricted to Year 11-13 students. A total of 80 students will participate and comprise 33 students from Year 12, 37 students currently in Year 13 and a few from Year 11.

The concert will be next Thursday, September 26 at the E.F.K.S hall at [Tupulaga Hall] at Mulinuu.
