Students at the National University of Samoa (N.U.S.) took time away from their studies to act as guides for prospective future classmates on Friday at the University's Open Day.

Speaking to the Samoa Observer, Nafoi Regency, said Friday was the first time she had walked the grounds of the university campus in the capacity of a guide. And she felt so grateful for the chance to show off the campus she knows so well to newcomers.

"So far I have shown them what Faculty of Art is and where its is, also the courses that students who are in [the faculty] take," she said.

She also said the students were enjoying Friday's tour but they were also expressing surprise about what would be expected of them in tertiary studies.

Seruia Loama said even though she had been attending N.U.S. she was less knowledgeable about activities in other faculties, something the Open Day provided her with an opportunity to brush up on.

"Some of the students [have been asking] me about what the law course is," she said.

"This is a great opportunity for me to show the students what other faculty are doing, and [to let them] know what they offer."

A Year 12 student attending St. Joseph College, Tim Faavae Salesa, said the tour guide students had done a great job, in terms of showing off the campus and answering questions about the content of courses.

Bemadette Tiaaleaiga said as a tour guide she was very excited to take on the groups of college students.

"The [most surprising] part of [giving tours to] the students [is] when I show them where the literature room is and they [are] surprised to see such a big classroom," she added.

Ms. Tia'aleaiga said the Year 13 cohorts were amazed by the way in which tertiary studies had expanded students' knowledge at every faculty across N.U.S.

"This Open Day also benefits us, the N.U.S students, to motivate the students to come here to the National University of Samoa, and to continue their learning," she said.
