The No Idea team remains undefeated after yesterday's second round of competition in the Women's Sevens Rugby Tournament Finals.

Held at the Samoa Rugby Union (S.R.U.) sports field, the winners dominated both halves of their match against the Apia Maroons with a score of 17-10.

Yesterday's competition results left the Maroons in second, Team Lepea coming third, Aleipata fourth and Marist Angels placing fifth.

Speaking to the Samoa Observer, team captain for the top team expressed joy over their second win against one of the toughest teams in the competition.

“It was really hard and challenging to compete against Apia Maroons as they are one of the toughest teams but praises to the man above for his love that we’ve dominated the second round as well," she said.

“We expected them to win as there were lots of experienced girls who joined Manusina and so we were scared but then again, we’re super proud of today’s competition.”

This year is a major milestone for the women's tournament as it is the first time the TV3 television station broadcast their games live.

Assistant Tournament Director Avi'i Fa'alupega said the tournament is trying to encourage young aspiring players in rural areas to become part of the tournament.

“We don’t really go out to the communities and the huge challenge we’re facing for women’s rugby is the mentality of the people, so social media is the easiest way to deliver the message out in the communities,” she said.

“Hopefully, [we reach] communities like the rural villages because we know that there is a lot of potential and talent from the [outer] villages.

"That [distance explains] why they don’t really come here and [compete] and watching from television [gives] the feeling to these girls.”

Part of the tournament's purpose is to select players for the Manusina Sevens that will compete in the Oceania Sevens at the end of the year in November.

The last leg of the competition will be held next week on Saturday.
