It pays to have an ex-Samoan boyfriend as two New Zealand sisters who flew to the country found out recently.

Christchurch resident, Serah Whitwan, told the Samoa Observer that having a Samoan boyfriend was the reason behind her learning more about Samoa, and ultimately booking a trip to the island paradise.

“He is basically the reason why I learned about Samoa and this trip was supposed to be our trip together. But instead my sister takes on the opportunity since we’ve broken up already," she said.

A family reunion with her ex-boyfriend's family in Samoa was on the cards, but even after their separation, she decided to take the trip as her sister Tess also wanted to experience life in the islands.

Samoa was the best choice.

The vacation in Samoa thus far has worked a treat for the two sisters.

They are grateful to learn more about the country, and her time with her sister has enabled them to grow their sisterly bond away from work and school.

But it appears their decision to take the trip was meant to be, as they were somewhat surprised and impressed by the offer of a Samoan woman to drive them to their accommodation. According to the two sisters, the kind-hearted woman is a physics lecturer at the National University of Samoa, and they felt blessed to be assisted by kind-hearted locals.

As for Serah's ex-Samoan boyfriend, his family lives on Savai'i and she intends to visit them on the big island for four days with her sister.

“His mom and family have known me for eight years so we’re still good friends and we’re visiting them soon when we get to Savai'i on Friday this week,” she added.

The two sisters said they would also love to attend a Sunday church service during their visit, in order to learn more about the Samoan culture and traditions

"We would definitely come back again and visit this beautiful country," they added.
