Reckitt Benckiser Business House Netball Tournament was in full swing Wednesday evening providing enjoyable, fully active and healthy competition for all.

Being a form of team building therapy, the tournament saw a record number of teams take part in this year’s tournament.

Although it was meant to be a fun and enjoyable string of games, with a few shoves here and there, all teams deviously and competitively aimed at being the best.

“Every year we have Reckitt Benckiser from Australia sponsoring our business house tournament,” Netball Samoa’s C.E.O. Rosemarie Esera said during an interview with Samoa Observer.

“So this is part of Netball Samoa’s calendar where we try and have at least two business house tournaments.

“This year we were able to attract many teams which I assure you is a big improvement from last year.”

Although the tournament saw a few competitive birds; according to Ms. Esera, healthy competition is always good for any sport.

“This is an opportunity for teams to get their work mates together and play a few friendly games together,” she said.

“However, in saying that, this year has been really competitive which is why we try to get really good umpires; that is one of the challenges we faced this year.”

Ms. Esera also applauded the level of skills she has seen in this year’s tournament.

“For the team like TV3, they are new but their skill level has improved tremendously from their first game,” she said.

“It’s not just their basic skills that have improved but also their teamwork which is really good to see.

“That is one of the successes of this tournament, we want each team to work better together, we also have teams like O.C.L. who are a family.

“S.S.A.B. is also a team that displays great teamwork which shines light on the good work culture that they have.”

Ms. Esera and her team also took the opportunity to scout for fresh talent that could be used in their national teams.

“We are hopeful that this tournament could attract a few players to come and join a club and play in our national league,” Ms. Esera said.

“A lot of them do join us but we need more people, we need to strengthen our national league like the Under 21s.

“If we can have development programmes or small tournaments, it will attract more people to play more competitively.”

The open invitation for teams prior to the tournament was received well by many businesses and this came as a pleasing success for Ms. Esera.

“We advertised this programme on various media forms and then the teams just rally on their own and register,” she said.

“We have a few teams who have this as their social club activity.”

“We have a prize giving next week which generates healthy competition, there will be cash prizes. “We also have our sponsor Reckitt Benckiser donating bibs and t-shirts which will be put in as prizes as well.” “I would like to thank Reckitt Benckiser for providing this opportunity through their sponsorship over the last three years; having their financial support is also really good.”

Ms. Esera concluded by stating that Netball Samoa is open to all interested parties.

“I would also like to urge people to come play netball and if you are interested in being an official, instead then come along and be an umpire,” she said. “We have a lot of umpire and coaching courses, so come along.”

S.S.A.B. Diamonds won the evening with A.S.T. coming in second followed by Pink Balls and A.G.’s Office who tied for 3rd place.
