Mother needs job to care for her family
When you have a family of your own, you have to know that they will depend on you.
So says Popo Ioane from Tanumapua.
The 36-year-old mother wants a job more than anything in this world.
“I’m a mother of six children and four of them are in school,” she says.
“That’s one of the reasons why I need to work.
“But you know, it’s not easy for me to find a job because I didn’t get to finish school.
“If I’m being honest, I’ve always been the type of person that always relies on my parents and my brothers for everything when I was growing up.
“But when I started having a family, the feeling changed.
“It changed into a way that I felt it’s not right to depend on others for my needs.
“I saw other families who have succeeded in their developments and I wanted to do that for my family.
“And I’ve been searching for jobs since then but I have no luck yet.
“It doesn’t feel great to have that voice in your head telling you that you’re not good enough for this job while waiting for a call everyday.
“But I tell myself that it’s not my time yet, this is not what God wants for me, just so I can feel motivated to keep on searching.
Popo’s husband used to be the breadwinner for the family but when he got sick, Popo was worried about his condition and urged him to stay home.
“I love my husband and I know he still wants to work but I can’t let him go when he’s still not well.
“He needs to always take his medication to feel better everyday.
“Being in this situation, it gives me more reason to fight for a job because we have no money of our own.
“Right now, my parents and brothers are the ones supporting us especially with our children.
“I appreciate all their help truly, but I can’t go on like this; relying on them.
“These are my children and I’m suppose to be the one that has to work and sweat for them.
“To feed them, to put them in school, to make sure that my family is meeting their basic needs.
“That is why I need a job. I’m good with cleaning houses but for someone like me; who’s desperate for a job, I will accept any job given that I know is suitable for me and I will be honest in doing my work.
“I can do any job because I have the motivation to work, and that is for my family.”
