Eighteen Members of Parliament who have completed Certificate of Law Course at the University of the South Pacific (U.S.P.) Alafua Campus will graduate tomorrow.

The graduation ceremony is the first of its kind in the region and is part of the University’s one-week 50th year anniversary celebration opened with a parade in Apia yesterday.

Associate Minister and Member of Parliament from Vaimauga Sisifo No.1, Lenatai Victor Faafoi Tamapua, will be among the graduates.

He said this is an exciting time for Members of Parliament.

“It all started last year when I took up studies to have a more in depth understanding of the legislations that come through Parliament, which is the key reason behind my participation in this particular course,” he said.

“Even though I had a busy schedule, I still made time to attend lectures and tutorials.”

Lenatai added it was fascinating what they were being taught, especially when it highlighted what exactly they were doing in Parliament in reference to endorsing the law.

“I am very happy to be graduating in this programme even though I didn’t know I would graduate again."

“It was all worthwhile the effort and time spent on it. Throughout our hectic schedules, we still were able to pull it off."

The course comprised six subjects in the one-year certificate, which includes an introduction to the different types of law, legal interpretation, and law for administrators, business law and civil courts.

The United Nations Development Programme (U.N.D.P.) funded the participation of 18 Members of Parliament, as part of its overall work on supporting governance in Samoa.
