According to the young man, life in the village trumps living in the urban areas.

“Life here is great and I love it,” he tells Samoa Observer.

“There’s not that many chores for me out here and it’s very peaceful. Yes we do have to go to the plantation a lot to help out with the family but it’s better than wandering around in town.”

As many youths nowadays favor the free-flowing life in the urban areas, Saleimoa has different interests.

Life in town may be laid back but village life is more peaceful for the young man and nothing beats that.

Saleimoa currently stays with his parents and siblings.

“I stay here with my parents and I hardly go into to town,” he said.

“Every time I go to Apia I notice that life for youth there and here is very different. The youth over in Apia have no discipline, they just wander around.

“Over here we have rules that keep us out of trouble.”

The young man continues to explain the difference between life in the village and life in town.

“Nothing compares to life here in the village,” he said.

“I wouldn’t trade it for a town life. The air is cleaner out here, it’s more relaxing, less noisy and the beach is just on the other side of the road.

“As for town; it’s dirty, full of rubbish and very crowded.”

Although Saleimoa prefers life in the village, he has dreams of one day working in the bank.

“When I grow up I want to work in the Bank,” he said.

“My parents work in the hospital but my passion is in commerce and I want a banking job.”
