Tofa’s thrilling ride
The past few weeks have been quite a ride for Tofa Li’o Foleni.
First there was the thrill of being elected as a Member of Parliament and then as icing on the cake, he was appointed as Associate Minister for the Ministry of Women, Community and Social Development.
Speaking to the Samoa Observer, Tofa said he is humbled by the honour. And he is ready to serve, to play his role in the development of villages, families and districts in Upolu and in Savai’i.
“I believe this is what the government has always been focusing on so I will try my best to work on what has already been started for the betterment of these developments,” he said.
“I will also be working together with the Minister on the progression of these new developments so that everyone will benefit from it.”
Tofa emphasized the critical role of women in children in the villages.
“As we all know, women play an important role within their families, villages and churches so I want to see more women within ministries and everywhere play their part,” he said.
“They have equal rights as the men do so we still need to push the women to be the focus of any work within the ministries, families, villages and churches.”
Tofa said he did not expect to be one of the Associate Ministers.
“I am very humbled by the position because I didn’t expect this but I thank God that He has chosen me to be the voice of the people especially my district,” he said.
“I am also familiar with where I have been chosen to work because I am also a worker and I love to work.
“I don’t have money but it was through the developments of plantations and all that I am where I am today so I hope I can help people with their new developments.”
Lastly, Tofa acknowledged his family, his village and district for their support.
“I thank everyone for your support especially my family. I will do my best to serve you and also the country to the best I can.”
