The Pacific Association of Supreme Audit Institutions (PASAI) is delivering training in Samoa to strengthen the capacity of Pacific Island auditors to carry out high-quality financial audits of public sector agencies.

A total of 23 senior officials, 17 women and six men from supreme audit institutions (SAIs) across the Cook Islands, Fiji, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu are attending the five-day, in-person workshop running from 13 to 17 April 2026.

PASAI Program Director Susana Laulu is co-facilitating the training alongside senior personnel from the Office of the Auditor-General of New Zealand.

The workshop blends instruction, case examples, real-world applications and hands-on exercises as part of PASAI’s broader effort to enhance the skills of government auditors in the Pacific region.

Participants came prepared by identifying areas within their audits that require improvement and by bringing relevant documents to support the practical components of the training.

Laulu said the workshop is designed to help participants pinpoint areas for improvement in key audit working papers, including planning, materiality, risk assessment, risk response, concluding and reporting.

She added that by the end of the course, participants are expected to gain the practical skills needed to confidently document audit approaches and effectively review critical elements of audit files.

PASAI has acknowledged the support of the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade for the initiative.
