Special committee to review forensic audit

The government, through a special cabinet committee, will review the forensic audit report, said the Minister of Revenue Pauga Talalelei Pauga.

Pauga said the forensic audit report was not fully reviewed by the caretaker government because of a lack of time to review it.

In a special programme with the government media, Pauga said the cabinet review committee consists of five cabinet ministers, and three of these ministers are qualified accountants and auditors.

Ministry of Finance employees will also be part of the committee.

Pauga said the Binder Dinjker Otte Audit company from New Zealand covered only 13 issues that needed to be audited.

He said the company was using their local auditors to conduct the audit.

Pauga clarified that after they found out that the report was not properly reviewed by the caretaker government, they came across a whole lot of issues that require legal process, such as no invoices, financial reports from some of the State Owned Enterprises and government ministries to conduct the audit.

He also claimed that there were no reports on the issues regarding the Tiavea Airport plan, the Electric Power Corporation plant at Falelatai and the measles outbreak.

He said those are just examples that show there were lapses.

Pauga said this special review committee will look into this whole report and will explain to the public the outcome of this forensic audit.

He said the claim saying that BDO was paid $1 million is incorrect because BDO was only paid $600,000.

The forensic audit covers the audit of projects undertaken by the Human Rights Protection Party government during its tenure before 2021.
