AG farewelled: Su'a won't reapply
The Attorney General, Su'a Hellene- Wallwork was farewelled at a ceremony held at the Office of the Attorney General. Her three-year contract concluded on Tuesday. Su'a will not be seeking a renewal of her contract.
Su'a was sworn in as Attorney General on 28 September 2021 on an interim basis. She was given the full-time nod in December 2022. She holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Auckland in New Zealand.
Clocking over 20 years working as a qualified solicitor in Samoa and abroad, Su'a was also the President of the Samoa Law Society before her appointment.
She took up the role of top legal advisor for the Government after her predecessor, Savalenoa Mareva Betham-Annandale, was sacked by the government.
The government is yet to announce the acting AG.
Su’a served as Attorney General during politically challenging times for the country, including the constitutional and political impasse that followed the 2021 general election.
Her office played a critical role in providing legal advice and guidance amid heightened political tensions, court proceedings and questions surrounding the interpretation of constitutional processes. Her leadership was widely regarded as central to maintaining the rule of law and institutional stability during a time of national uncertainty.
She had been providing legal advice during the district grant sagas as well, which involved the misuse of funds and the withholding of money from Lepa.
