An unexpected electricity outage has disrupted power supply to several feeders across the country, affecting many households, businesses and essential services.
According to the Electricity Corporation of Samoa (EPC), the feeders currently impacted include Alaoa South Feeder, South Coast Feeder, Palisi Feeder, Beach Road Feeder, Industrial Feeder, Lefaga Feeder, and East Coast Feeder. The disruption was caused by an issue at the Fiaga Power Station, which supplies electricity to a large part of the national grid.
EPC confirmed that repair works are underway and their technical team has been dispatched to the Fiaga power station to identify and fix the problem as quickly as possible. The corporation assured the public that restoring power safely and efficiently is their top priority.
The outage has caused inconvenience for residents and businesses, especially those that rely heavily on electricity for daily operations. Some shop owners reported disruptions to refrigeration systems and electronic transactions, while households expressed concerns over food storage and the impact on their normal routines.
In a public notice, EPC sincerely apologised for the inconvenience caused by what they described as “unavoidable circumstances,” and asked for the public’s patience and understanding while repair works continue.
“We understand the impact this outage has on our customers and we are working urgently to restore electricity to all affected areas,” EPC stated.
Members of the public are advised to stay updated through EPC’s official communication channels and to take necessary safety precautions during the outage, such as switching off electrical appliances to prevent damage when power is restored.
Further updates will be provided once more information becomes available regarding the progress of the repair works and the expected time for full restoration of power supply.
