Acting Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga has confirmed that 12 people aged between 15 and 50 years remain under investigation following a major drug raid in Savaiʻi that initially resulted in the arrest of 15 suspects.

The police, in an earlier statement, have clarified that anyone present where the drugs are found will be charged.

“Out of the 15 arrested, 12 are now confirmed and under active investigation,” Leiataua said. “Their photos will be published on the police Facebook page after investigations are completed, and they are expected to appear in court in February.”

The acting commissioner said investigations are ongoing and warned that police will not hesitate to pursue anyone suspected of involvement in illegal drug activities.

“Anyone who could be a suspect in drugs will be under investigation,” Leiataua said, adding that police are committed to cracking down on drug-related crimes nationwide.

The operation in Savaii took place early Friday morning, with the police's special units taking part in the raid. The arrested suspects were brought to Apia on the first ferry from Savaii.

More raids are expected to follow.
