Two young Samoans are filled with hope and determination for what they want to achieve in 2026. Their ambitions range from excelling in academics and improving skills to advancing in careers, all while supporting their families and communities.

Shaun Saili Leota, 20, from Lalovaea, said, “In 2026, my goal is to pass all my second-year courses with a stronger GPA, as this year is critical in shaping my academic journey.”He noted that performing well would allow him to continue his studies, giving him confidence and better preparation.

“I am focused on building consistency, improving my study habits, and laying a strong foundation for my long-term goal of serving others through my career,” said Shaun. His dedication to his studies reflects his commitment to his family.

Shaun’s parents are Faaoloviti and Patrice, and he is one of seven siblings. He is a student at the National University of Samoa, pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science. He added that all his efforts are for his family, whom he plans to support financially once he secures a job.

Stephen Tautua Toleafoa, 20, from Afega, said, “In 2026, I plan to enhance my IT skills and excel at work,” adding that he also wants to gain more experience and learn new skills in his line of work.

He said he is an IT technician at Taumeasina Island Resort, where he repairs guests’ TVs, safe locks, and internet connections, and also sets up sound systems for weddings and meetings in the resort ballroom.

Stephen lives with his parents, Faasalu and Malaeloa, along with his grandma, uncle, and aunt. He noted that his father has always worked hard to provide for them. “Now I have been able to help him so much. It makes me happy and motivates me even more to support him and our family,” he said.

These dreams show young Samoans’ drive to build a brighter future for themselves, their families, and communities, reflecting responsibility, resilience, and hope for the year ahead.
