Samoa triathletes came back from Fiji on Monday after a very successful competition, winning two medals. Tyreece Collins won gold in the Elite Men’s Race, and Manamea Schwalger won bronze in the Women’s race.

The team also set new national records and personal best times in the Aquathlon event.

The Samoan team that travelled to Fiji included manager Leilani Faletoese, coach Euta Levale, and eight athletes. Senior competitor Darren Young self-funded his participation and, although he did not attend the training camp, he competed in the races.

The youth athletes joined a week-long training camp with exercises and workshops. They first competed in an Aquathlon on Saturday, then in the main event — the Oceania Regional Development Sprint Triathlon Cup on Sunday. This race gives points for World Triathlon rankings and was needed for Pacific athletes aged 16–18 who wanted to be selected for the Dakar Youth Olympics. This is why Samoa sent its three best junior athletes.

“On behalf of our TSA Board, I thank SASNOC for your support of our Federation and its work,”

The team came back to Samoa on Tuesday morning.
