Chanel College’s proud legacy is set for a revival as the school’s alumni consolidate under Chanel Old Students Association, joining forces to support the Marist Brothers’ expected return and to rebuild the institution that has shaped generations of national leaders.
Following the confirmed merger, COSA secretary Lepailetai Tosimaea Tupua said the immediate focus is on ensuring that the new association is cohesive, well-structured, and inclusive of all former students.
“Our foremost priority is to ensure that the merger leads to a well-organised and forward-looking alumni association,” he said.
“We are putting in place strong administrative systems, clarifying responsibilities, and establishing effective communication channels so all old students feel part of one united group.”
Reconnecting with the wider alumni community—both in Samoa and abroad—is another key goal during the transition. Lepailetai emphasised the need to rebuild trust and participation, noting that the strength of COSA lies in the collective responsibility shared by those who were shaped by Chanel College.
“Strengthening participation and renewing our sense of stewardship are essential if COSA is to become a reliable partner in guiding the school through this period of renewal,” he said.
Preparation is also underway for the anticipated return of the Marist Brothers, whose leadership defined the school’s most successful years. Lepailetai revealed that COSA is committed to constructing a dedicated residence to house the Brothers once they return.
“The Marist Brothers were the driving force behind Chanel during its glory days,” he said. “Their leadership and dedication shaped the school’s identity. Their return brings stability, renewed purpose, and a strong foundation rooted in discipline and values.”
In his message to former students, Lepailetai urged alumni everywhere to support the movement.
“Chanel College is a part of who we are. Its challenges call upon us now. Rebuilding Chanel is not only about restoring facilities—it is about renewing pride, community, and identity.”
The merger was confirmed during a special meeting at the Tatte Building Convention Centre, attended by Archbishop Mosese Vitolio Tui and many alumni. Leadership roles were established with Archbishop Mosese as Chairman, Lautafi Purcell as Deputy Chair, Tauiliili Aki Reupena as Treasurer, and Lepailetai as Secretary.
Alumni registration is set at 50 tala to support restoration initiatives, and COSA will host its first Fellowship Dinner on 18 December at Leauva’a to strengthen unity ahead of the Marist Brothers’ return.
