The public was urged to celebrate responsibly as Toa Samoa prepares to face the New Zealand Kiwis in the Pacific Cup final this weekend, with the government having confidence in the police to do their work.

Speaking on behalf of the Government, Toelupe Poumulinuku Onesemo said they supported the national team and called for peace and safety during the celebrations. He reminded the nation, especially the youth, to uphold respect and order while showing their support for the team.

“To celebrate with respect and joy is what we encourage so that peace and safety are maintained while our Toa Samoa competes in the Pacific Cup final,” said Toelupe. “We have full confidence in the Police Commissioner and the Ministry to monitor the situation closely.”

The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged the efforts of the Ministry of Police and Prisons, which has the responsibility for receiving and processing applications for permits for public events, including parades.

“In carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this section under the Commissioner and Police, the government has considered the situation and the unfortunate disturbances that arose last Sunday after Toa Samoa’s match,” Toelupe said. “We therefore remind the public, especially young people, to celebrate respectfully and safely as Toa Samoa prepares for the Pacific Cup final.”

Toelupe also conveyed the government’s appreciation to Toa Samoa’s coaching staff, management, captain, and players for their dedication and hard work leading up to the final. “We thank the coaches, management, captains, and the entire team for their efforts,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Seuamuli Fasi Toma, is travelling to meet with the Toa Samoa ahead of their highly anticipated clash with the Kiwis. The Pacific Cup final is expected to draw nationwide attention, with fans across Samoa preparing to show their support for the national team.
