Authorities are urging the public to put a halt to the Toa Samoa parades this weekend as the national team prepares to face the Kiwis in the Pacific Championship final.
Police confirmed that no permits have been requested or approved for any parades this weekend.
The warning comes amid ongoing concerns about public safety and legal breaches during last week’s celebrations.
Acting Police Commissioner Leiataua Samuelu Afamasaga said the Ministry is responsible for ensuring public events are properly managed and reviewing past incidents before approving further celebrations.
“There are many factors to consider when it comes to parade safety,” Leiataua said in Samoan.
“Laws were broken during the previous parade a week ago, and these need to be thoroughly reviewed. My advice is to halt parades for now. The main reasons are public safety and law enforcement.”
Leiataua said police noted multiple safety concerns during last week’s celebrations, including traffic violations and crowds gathering on major roads without proper supervision. He stressed that national pride is welcome but must be expressed within the law to avoid risking lives or property.
“We understand the passion our people have for Toa Samoa; this team represents us as a nation,” he said. “But we also have a duty to ensure that joy and excitement do not put anyone in danger. The law exists to protect everyone, and we must respect it.”
While excitement is building nationwide for Toa Samoa’s next international appearance, officials stress that public safety must take precedence.
Toa Samoa will face the Kiwis in the Pacific Championship final this weekend, and fans are being urged to show their support in ways that balance pride with safety.
