Samoa’s weightlifting team has once again made the nation proud, bringing home gold and silver medals from the Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships 2025 in Ahmedabad, India.

Earlier last week, 17-year-old Seine Stowers set the tone for Samoa’s success after winning a gold medal in the Women’s 77kg category. Her outstanding lifts not only secured the win but also broke new Commonwealth and Oceania records, making her one of the brightest rising stars in the sport.

On the final day of the championship, the celebrations continued as 18-year-old Emmanuel Ulimasao powered through the Men’s 94kg division to win a silver medal. This came after his earlier victory in July at the Oceania Senior Championships in Palau, where he claimed gold in the same weight class.

Jack Opeloge also lifted his way into the spotlight, delivering an inspiring final attempt that earned him another silver medal for Samoa. His performance followed his success at the Mini Pacific Games in Palau earlier this year, where he took home two gold medals in the Clean and Jerk and Total for the Men’s 110kg category.

Samoa’s women continued to shine with Iuniarra Sipara, who dominated the Women’s 86+kg division. Sipara powered through her lifts to win gold and set two new Oceania records. Her achievement built on her earlier clean sweep at the Mini Pacific Games in Palau, where she earned three gold medals in Clean and Jerk, Snatch, and Total.

The team’s golden finish came from Sanele Mao, who won gold in the Men’s 110+kg category. Mao not only secured the medal but also set two new Commonwealth records and two Oceania records, a historic achievement for Samoa. His victory also earned him qualification for the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games. Mao had earlier proven his strength with a gold medal performance at the Mini Pacific Games in Palau.

With these remarkable achievements, Samoa’s weightlifting team has once again shown its strength, dedication, and world-class talent. Their success on the international stage brings immense pride to the nation and serves as an inspiration to the next generation of athletes.
