Thief tried to kill victim
A man in his 40s appeared in the Supreme Court on Monday facing charges of attempted murder, grievous bodily harm and theft.
Fanatanu Fanatanu from Faleasi'u attacked the victim with a machete after he was caught by the victim trying to steal some yams from the victim's plantation on 7 August this year.
The prosecution requested the court for a two-week adjournment to finalise charges against the accused.
Justice Fepuleai Ameperosa Roma adjourned the matter for mention on 8 September.
It was revealed in court that when the victim caught the accused stealing yams from his plantation, he was attacked with a machete by the accused and as a result of the alleged attack, he received critical injuries to his hands and back.
The accused was taken back into custody to await the date his matter has been adjourned to.
Another man pleaded guilty to two charges of theft and trespassing in the Supreme Court on Monday.
Maeli Sulusi broke into a house at Vailele and stole a fine mat worth $2000.
His bail was opposed because he had pending matters before the court for similar offences.
He was taken back into custody to await his sentencing on 23 September before Justice Vui Clarence Nelson.
