Tsunami advisory for Samoa
A tsunami advisory is in effect for Samoa after an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.8 occurred in the Russia Region at 12:24 p.m. (Samoan local time).
Based on current tsunami model forecasts, the estimated arrival time of any possible tsunami waves to Samoa is around 9:40 p.m. this evening.

The earthquake had a depth of 19.3 kilometres and was located approximately 7,534 kilometres north-west of Apia.
The Samoa Meteorology Office has not advised which areas would be affected; however, people have been advised to be alert and start evacuating as a precaution if they live close to the sea.
