SUP launches manifesto, fields 26 candidates for election

The Samoa United Party (SUP), led by caretaker Prime Minister Fiame Naomi Mata‘afa, officially launched its election manifesto on Tuesday morning, confirming 26 candidates for the upcoming general election.
Fiame told supporters that the SUP had risen “from the ashes of FAST,” describing the new party as a response to political turmoil and internal divisions. “Both HRPP and FAST have tried to strip me of my role,” she said, referring to efforts to undermine her leadership following the dissolution of Parliament.
The lineup includes three women and 23 men, most of whom are current caretaker ministers.
Notably absent from the party’s ticket are caretaker ministers Mauʻu Siaosi Puʻepuʻemai and Seuula Ioane Tuāʻau. Mauʻu has opted to run as an independent, while Seuula will not contest this election.
Despite running independently, Mauʻu was seen at the SUP manifesto launch, raising questions about potential post-election alignments. Observers say his future support could be pivotal.
Fiame said SUP remains focused on stability, adding that the full manifesto would be made available to the public later today.
