Ratukeli Vaega Faimata, a theological student from Matafele, was named dux of the 2025 graduating class (Tausaga 4, Diploma 3) at Piula Theological College during the college’s annual graduation ceremony.
He was recognised for achieving the highest academic results after four years of theological and ministerial training.
In an interview with the Samoa Observer following the event, Ratukeli expressed his gratitude and gave full credit to God for his success.
“I give glory to God for all He has done,” he said. “He gave me the strength and guidance to complete my studies, especially during the most difficult times.”
Ratukeli began his theological education at Piula in 2021, entering the Diploma in Theology programme. This qualification is required for those seeking ordination in the Methodist Church of Samoa. His studies involved rigorous academic work, spiritual formation, preaching practice, and field placements in local congregations.
He shared that the journey was challenging but rewarding. Balancing academic responsibilities with family life was not always easy. Alongside him throughout the journey was his wife, Nu’uaoiniualuga Faimata, whom he acknowledged as a key source of strength.
“There were times when I felt exhausted or discouraged, but my wife was always there, praying for me, supporting me, and reminding me of our shared purpose.”
Throughout his four years, Ratukeli remained committed and consistent in both his academic and spiritual growth. His dedication and excellence in coursework, preaching, and ministry earned him the title of dux, a distinction awarded to the top-performing student of the class.
Now a fully trained Methodist pastor, Ratukeli is prepared to begin his service wherever the Church appoints him.
“This is just the beginning,” he said. “I’m ready to go wherever God and the Church send me to serve His people.”
To those considering the call to ministry and theological studies at Piula, Ratukeli offered simple but meaningful advice:
“Come with a heart that’s open — ready to be shaped not only by study, but by prayer, humility, and service.”
The 2025 Piula graduation was attended by church leaders, families, and supporters, celebrating the next generation of Methodist ministers preparing to serve across Samoa and beyond.
