Former SNPF chair Panoa passes away

Papali’i Panoa Moala, also known as "Spano", a beloved father, grandfather and a notable public figure in Samoa, is believed to have passed away on Wednesday night.
He was a former Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the Samoa National Provident Fund (SNPF), a businessman, and a commercial farmer, leaving behind a legacy marked by decades of public service, business ventures, and outspoken commentary on national issues.
Papali’i most recently served as chairman of the SNPF Board following his appointment shortly after the 2021 General Election. His term was expected to conclude before the end of this year.
A notable figure in both the public and private sectors, Papali’i was also a candidate in the 2021 General Election. Although unsuccessful in his bid for a parliamentary seat, he remained a vocal contributor to national discourse, particularly on governance. Papali'i family is behind Farm Supplies Ltd, which was incorporated in 1997, and the current director is Papali'i's daughter Lorraine Alofa Iosefa, according to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour’s business registry.
Family, friends, and loved ones have taken to social media to share heartfelt tributes and condolences for the late Papali’i Panoa Moala, remembering him as a devoted father, uncle, and grandfather.
Many offered messages of comfort and respect, with posts reading, “Mr. Panoa Moala was a dedicated public servant and a source of inspiration for many,” while others simply wrote, “Rest in Peace, Spano.”
Details of his funeral arrangements have yet to be confirmed by the family. Attempts to contact them for comment were unsuccessful.
