22,400 yet to register, two days to go

The Office of the Electoral Commission (OEC) reports that 81 per cent of eligible voters have registered, as the nation rushes to finalise its electoral roll.

The updated figures, released Tuesday morning, show 94,830 voters confirmed on the roll of an estimated 117,225 eligible adults. However, nearly 22,400 voters remain unregistered with just two days to go.

Rural constituencies are leading the charge in voter readiness, with registration rates exceeding 90 per cent in electorates such as Falelatai and Samatau (96 per cent), Siumu (99 per cent), and Safata 2 (92 per cent). Some areas have even exceeded their projected population numbers, likely due to census undercounts or changes in residency status.

In contrast, urban constituencies are lagging. Faleata No.3 has registered just 52 per cent of its voters—the lowest in the country—while other electorates such as Vaimauga No.2 and No.3 and Sagaga No.1 are also behind, with registration hovering around 60 per cent.

Faleata No.1 records the largest number of unregistered voters by volume, with 3,058 still to complete the process.

A total of 12,104 voters have registered online, including 310 Samoans living abroad. The largest groups were in New Zealand (170), Australia (84), and the United States (23). Locally, over 11,700 voters used the digital platform.

The Online Portal will close at 4 pm on Wednesday, 2 July 2025. The Office at Mulinuu will remain open to capture biometrics until 4 pm on Friday, 4 July 2025. Special Booth Registration will close at 4 pm on Thursday, 3 July 2025. The Electoral Roll will officially close at 4 p.m. on Friday, 4 July 2025.
