One injured in Vailoa crash
A man was injured and taken to the hospital following a crash between an ice-cream delivery truck and a Toyota Hiace van on Monday morning in Vailoa.
When the Samoa Observer arrived at the scene, the injured man had already been taken to the hospital. It is still unclear who was at fault.
According to people selling fish by the roadside, they were busy with their work when the crash happened. They said they didn’t see clearly how it started, only that the vehicles collided suddenly.
Police were seen at the site managing traffic and taking notes from witnesses. The cause of the accident is still unknown as investigations continue.
The police have urged drivers to drive within the speed limit as speeding has been identified as a major cause of road accidents resulting in casualties. The maximum speed limit in Samoa is 56km/h (35mp/h) on open roads such as the main highway and 40km/h (25mp/h) in town and villages.
