SekiEats closes after seven years

After seven years of service, Samoa’s first food delivery platform, SekiEats, has officially shut down operations as of 27 June 2025.

Launched in late 2018, SekiEats changed how food was delivered in Samoa, connecting over 130 restaurants with thousands of customers across the country and overseas.

In a media statement, the company thanked its loyal customers, hardworking staff, and restaurant partners for supporting a service that started as a brand-new idea in Samoa.

While the platform has closed for now, this is not a permanent goodbye. The owners of SekiEats are currently looking for a new buyer who can take over and restart the business.

The decision to pause came after a strong run. The team behind SekiEats is now focusing on their other growing platforms, SamoaMarket.com and Faakau.com, which continue to support local businesses online.

"A few challenges also played a role. The business lost trained staff to overseas work programs like the Seasonal Workers Scheme. Although this made operations harder, the team supports their workers’ choices to seek better opportunities for their families," said the company.

"Rising fuel costs and the need to shift to electric or hybrid vehicles also made it a good time to step back and reassess. The company posted online earlier in June, asking customers to use any credit left in their SekiEats wallets before the closure date."

The business is still offering refunds or the option to keep the credit for when the service reopens under new ownership.

SekiEats may be closing its doors for now, but its impact on Samoa’s food and tech industry is clear. The founders remain hopeful that with the right support and leadership, the platform will return, stronger and better than ever.
