LTC Judge Faumuina resigns
One of the two Land and Titles Court judges running in the general elections, Faumuina Leilua Opapo Soanai, confirmed that he has already resigned and is awaiting a warrant from the Head of State, Tuimalealiifano Va'aleto'a Sualauvi II.
Faumuina was asked when he would leave office. Faumuina stated that they (the judges) were not under the Public Service Commission.
"We are under a special Commission under the Ministry of Justice and we will wait for a warrant from the Head of State to make our resignations official as LTC Judges," Faumuina said.
Faumuina was referring to him and the other LTC Judge, who will also be running in the general election, Asiata Tuasivi Setu.
He clarified that they will be on the bench for withdrawal cases before the Lands and Titles Court because these are the cases where the decisions are to be delivered on that exact day.
"The deadline for nominees is on July 12, and by that time, the warrant should be issued by the Head of State," Faumuina said.
The Electoral Act states that once the nomination of a candidate who is a public servant or a government officer is accepted, he or she has to resign immediately.
