Solve the landslide problem, says public
The public is hoping that the work conducted by Geovert between Luatuanuu to Eva provides a permanent solution to the constant landslides that keep happening.
The villages in between the mentioned locations are constantly having to deal with landslides whenever it rains.
Members of the public who use the road daily told the Samoa Observer that they have asked about the purpose of the work being done in those areas.
"We were on the bus to go to town, but there was a long queue ahead. I thought perhaps a tree had fallen on the road, or maybe a car crash had happened. But when we got to where it was causing the whole queue, some foreigners were climbing up using the ropes, not sure what was happening at the top of the mountain, but there was a landslide," said Fatima Alapati.
She hopes that the ongoing work will help prevent landslides in the future.
Daisy Anapapa mentioned that whenever it is the cyclone season, she never wants to drive past the area.
"When there are heavy showers, I will never drive my car. I fear that a rock may fall from the mountain, or perhaps a landslide or worse, a fallen tree. For those areas, it is unpredictable when things may happen," she said.
"It could get worse, but we do hope that a permanent fixture for this issue can be done soon. We all know that every day, the public drives through the area to go to work, school or run errands for their families. So it is a must that we fix the problem."
The Chief Executive Officer was contacted by Samoa Observer in the week, unfortunately, there was no response as of press time.
