Local musicians form association
The newly established Samoa Association of Musicians Incorporated has registered 20 local artists, so far, in the hopes of building the talents and protecting those in the music industry.
They launched their association at the Garden Plate restaurant at Nuu on Friday.
SAM president Tuala Uili Lafaele, better known as Pesega Boe, said he was contacted by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Labour to form an association for everyone in the music industry for communication purposes.
"I was contacted last month by MCIL that an association should be formed for all artists and everyone involved in the music industry. If we don't form one, blessings will be lost, which is why we decided to call for a meeting for everyone in the music industry," he said.
"Singers are not the only ones who could be in here, there are also composers, pianists, and many others. You only pay a $100 registration fee per year.
"As you have witnessed, we have officially launched our association today. The whole purpose is to help our young people who have the talent and love music. We can share our knowledge and experience through seminars, workshops and so forth to help build their career. It could also be our way to ensure that their love for music doesn't fade."
Before they launched their association, they had prepared policies to ensure that their music is original. Tuala also took the opportunity to call on other artists to come and be part of the association. They will work hand in hand in building up their careers in the music industry. He also hopes that one day, music will become compulsory in schools.
