Vaitele robbery suspect arrested
Police arrested a 24-year-old male of Vaitele-Fou and Sili, Savaii, who was one of the two suspects of a violent robbery incident at Vaitele two weeks ago.
Anzac, also known as Wilford Farani, was on the run for two weeks after he was identified from the CCTV camera footage of the Bargain Wholesale in Vaitele.
The two suspects in this case were armed with knives and stabbed the owners of the property when confronted.
Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo confirmed that police were trying everything they could to arrest and detain this young man, which resulted in a notice for the public's assistance to locate this suspect.
Auapaau said he was now arrested and is charged with aggravated robbery, causing grievous bodily harm and armed with a dangerous weapon.
Additional charges are likely to be laid against Anzac as he is now under the custody of police to await his court appearance in two weeks.
The other suspect said Auapaau hasn't been identified and investigations into this matter is still ongoing.
The incident took place two weeks ago at the Bargain Wholesale in Vaitele, where three Chinese nationals were attacked by two Samoans allegedly using sharp objects.
They were admitted to the hospital. Two were released the next day, while the one who was stabbed in the neck and ribs remained in the hospital.
Meanwhile, the Chinese community in Samoa have downplayed the recent attacks on Chinese businesses. They have said that everything was business as usual and their relationship with Samoa was one of friendship.
