Tears were shed as the students Maluafou College reenacted the crucifixion of Jesus Christ as part of their Easter celebration program on Friday.

The performance from the Year 12 students brought out different moods in the audience made up of other students and family members.

More than 100 students were involved, as there were skits, singing and dancing making the event memorable.

Director of the program Meafou Ah Ching, 35, stated that the importance of this event was to celebrate Easter and educate students spiritually with Maluafou College being a Christian School.

“Easter is mainly about new beginnings. Despite everything Jesus went through during the hardships of the journey to the cross. It’s a chance for us to be better and worthy of the sacrifices Jesus made for you and me,” said Rosie Nai, a 27-year-old from Falefa and Tulaele.

Tavita Reupena, a teacher, also contributed to organising the program. She said the program for Easter 2025 was focused on the importance of the crucifixion to all of us.

Teachers also shared their opinions about the rising issue of drugs and fighting in schools.

“Students involved in such cases are mainly due to the lack of spiritual practices, not enough time with their parents due to time on their cell phones. There is no time to bond and connect with their parents,” said Meafou Ah Ching.

“Parents are also not playing their roles correctly as they should be saying evening prayers every day. This is a great time to connect and bond with children with the Holy Spirit. Maluafou College is not familiar with such cases of students’ involvement with drugs and fights.”

“Drugs in school are serious, especially with our youths nowadays, it’s due to the influence around them, social media, and the environment they are brought up in. And so many other factors. If they had that strong bond with their parents, and put to use the advice from their parents. Students would have no thinking to do such things,” said Ms Nai, a teacher at Maluafou College

The staff of Maluafou College said they wished to spread the Easter love and wishes to everyone.
