Close to $2M in dividend for Govt.

The Minister for Works, Transport and Infrastructure, Olo Fiti Afoa Vaai, presented two substantial dividend cheques to Leatinuu Wayne Fong Sooialo, Minister for Public Enterprises (MPE) last week.
The cheques, totalling $1,325,451 from the Samoa Shipping Corporation Ltd (S.S.C.) and $180,825.57 from Samoa Shipping Services (SSS) show the positive impact that the government-owned entities are having on the nation’s economy.
Leatinu'u said the cheques were not just figures on paper but represented a tangible outcome of effective services and operations contributing to the national revenue.
With the government preparing to table the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, such dividends serve as vital proof that revenue is being generated through the country’s services and operations, which in turn aids in the nation’s economic development.
Olo expressed his gratitude for the dedication and hard work of the staff, customers, stakeholders, and all those who have contributed to the success of SSC and SSS
He emphasised that the dividends were a direct result of their collective efforts in providing essential services for the people of Samoa.
"These payments are a testament to the dedication of all involved and the positive impact that such services continue to have on Samoa’s economy,” said Olo.
Accepting the dividend on behalf of the Ministry of Public Enterprises, Leatinuu also extended his congratulations and gratitude.
He thanked the ministry, the boards of directors, the general managers, and the staff of SSC and SSS for their unwavering commitment.
"This is not just about the profits; it's about the service provided to the people of Samoa," Leatinuu said.
This marks the fourth dividend payment from the Transport and Infrastructure Sector to the Government of Samoa through the Ministry of Public Enterprises (MPE) since the beginning of 2025.
Leatinuu expressed his appreciation on behalf of the government, highlighting that these dividends are not just a reflection of financial success, but also an indication of good governance and strong leadership.
The payments also hold broader significance as they underscore the importance of well-managed state-owned enterprises in generating sustainable revenue for the government, particularly at a time when the nation is looking to strengthen its economic foundation.
