Samoa Touch Rugby Incorporated (S.T.R.I.) received a $3,000 boost from Business Systems Limited (B.S.L.) for the Clash of Legends tournament.

The cheque was presented to the S.T.R.I. President, Mailata Michael Wulf at B.S.L’s headquarters at Taufusi yesterday.

B.S.L. Marketing and Sales Manager, Nigel Stowers said B.S.L. has always been supportive of organisations that develop sports from grassroots to the national level in Samoa.

“We are a very sport minded nation and as part of B.S.L. support through Samoa Touch, it is a great opportunity to this upkeep through Samoa Touch,” Mr. Stowers said.

“Samoa Touch is hosting a national elite touch championship named ‘Clash of the Legends’ and B.S.L. is excited to sponsor one of the local teams named B.S.L. Vaea,” said Mr. Stowers.

Mailata said the donation will be used primarily for the tournament.

“We will also spread this across all teams because we want to make sure that this tournament is a platform for players and not only that, it will cater for officials and fields,” Mailata said.

“We have three overseas officials who will come to Samoa and that too is a cost for us.”

S.T.R.I. will officially open its two-day Clash of Legends tournament at the Marist fields Lotopa at 7pm today with the matches to kick off tomorrow and finishing on Saturday.

The tournament will showcase Samoa’s elite and best talents who aim to meet the high standard of international touch rugby.

There are four franchises competing in the National Elite Touch Clash of the Legends – Vaea (men’s and women’s), Tagaloa Lagi (men’s and women’s), Nafanua (men’s and women’s) and Va’atausili, a team made up of Samoans based in New Zealand competing in the men’s division. More in Sports.
