Samoans can track Australian aid money
Every dollar of development funding contributed by Australia to Samoa can now be tracked, boosting accountability and transparency.
The Australian Government is ensuring the funds contribute to the outcomes that Australia, Samoa and partners across the Blue Pacific want to achieve.
The new AusDevPortal launched on Friday will provide access to more comprehensive data on Australia’s Official Development Assistance (ODA) investments online.
Australia’s High Commissioner to Samoa, William Robinson said the AusDevPortal was designed to be an intuitive, accessible way to explore Australia’s role in humanitarian response and international development, including Australia’s long-term support for health, education, infrastructure, and governance programs in Samoa and across the region.
“Samoa and Australia have a shared commitment to core democratic values, including transparency and accountability,” he said.
“This tool reflects these values by ensuring Australia’s development support is open, measurable, and responsive to the needs of the people of Samoa and the region.” S
The AusDevPortal will publish key data on every Australian development investment, including project descriptions, yearly expenditure, total values, and geographic locations. The Portal will also publish performance scores and provide access to project evaluations and design reports.
This includes information on Australia’s flagship bilateral investments in Samoa, including the Tautua and Tautai facilities, the Australia Awards scholarships, and the Legislative Assembly Office infrastructure project, amongst others.
Initially, Australians and international partners will be able to access data on over 900 Official Development Assistance projects Australia supported in the 2022–23 financial year, representing $4.78 billion in investments across 122 countries. Data will be added for 2023-24 and future years once available.
As Samoa’s largest development partner, Australia remains committed to supporting its priorities as outlined in the Pathway for the Development of Samoa. The portal ensures these efforts continue to be transparent, meaningful, and aligned with Samoa’s vision for its future.
