Despite the cancellation of the Champs of the Champs for this year, the six schools competing in the Zone A athletic meet at Apia Park on Wednesday did not hold back.

The six schools were Anoamaa College, Avele College, Leifiifi College, Vaimauga College, and Palalaua College. Papauta Girls College is part of this zone and was at Apia Park but did not have any athletes participating.

Leifiifi College won three of the six divisions while Anoama College, Samoa College and Avele College won one each of their divisions.

A teacher and coach for Anoamaa College, Tulitua Timoti Milikini in an interview confirmed that they have been told there will be no Champ of Champs this year due to preparation for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (C.H.O.G.M).

"First of all, I would like to thank our school, district, our staff members, and everyone who has contributed to this event. We did not need to look elsewhere, we had our own champs in our school," he said.

"They just need it a little push and some training and they are good to compete. But with the champ of champs is not happening this year, the decision is not really made by one person."

"We listen to what the Government says, after all the programs that the Ministry has follow suit with what our Parliament have. Even though we want the Champ of Champs to happen but we also have to think about the big meeting that Samoa is hosting, because that is the reason why the C.O.C is not happening this year which is understandable."

Anoamaa College only had two weeks to train together as a team but the students were told to train on their own as there was very little time to put together a team. 

"Despite the time we had to train our team, I am very happy and proud of the outcome. I understand we did not have much time to work as a team but the outcome is definitely great. As a teacher and coach, I am very proud."

The results for the Zone A athletics are as follows:

For the Girls Divisions, 

Junior Girls - 1. Samoa College 2. Vaimauga College 3. Anoama'a College. 

Intermediate Girls - 1. Anoama'a College 2. Vaimauga College 3. Avele College.  

Senior Girls - 1. Leifiifi College 2. Annama'a College 3. Avele College.

For the Boys Division, 

Junior Boys - 1. Leifiifi College 2. Samoa College 3. Avele College. 

Intermediate Boys - 1. Leifiifi College and Samoa College 2. Vaimauga College 3. Anoama'a College. 

Senior Boys - 1. Avele College 2. Leifiifi College 3. Anoama'a College
