MP and wife charged for alleged assault

The police have charged Member of Parliament for Sagaga No.1, Loau Keneti Sio, and his wife, Malama Sio with assault, making threats, and being armed.
Police Commissioner Auapa'au Logoitino Filipo confirmed this in response to inquiries from the Samoa Observer.
The charges were laid on Friday afternoon following an alleged incident earlier in the week involving an internal family dispute that escalated dramatically.
Commissioner Auapa'au confirmed that both Loau and Malama Sio were brought to the police station around 2 pm on Friday and charged after an official complaint was lodged by family members related to Loau.
The complaint stems from a violent altercation on Monday evening, allegedly linked to a dispute over family land. Si'u Taito, speaking on behalf of the Pese Uele family in Faleula, alleged that Loau attacked his wife, his sister-in-law, and his niece.
The altercation resulted in all three women being taken to the hospital for medical checks. Taito stated that medical reports and a video recording of the MP and his wife during the alleged attack were submitted as evidence when lodging their complaint with the police.
The family has alleged that a fire that destroyed their property and five cars was a consequence of this violent dispute.
Loau has maintained that he was 'unaware' of the incident.
