The Ott Construction company is projecting they will complete their West Coast Road project in June, a month before the deadline of their one-year contract.

Despite being awarded another three-month contract to add or lay the asphalt surface upon the chip-seal which was the original contract, both were done within less than a year.

Thanks to the hard work of their workers and partners according to Civil Engineer, Sulamanaia Rudi Ott during an interview with the Samoa Observer.

Sulamanaia has cleared the air that the work was contracted to finish by 24 July marking one year of construction as per the contract but they managed to finish end of February.

"We were awarded the possession of the site on 24 July 2023 for the original contract and we completed it by the end of February 2024," he explained.

"The Government then requested for the asphalt surface as another contract which would take another three months if needed but because we were ahead already, we accepted no extra time allowance or extension and committed to completing both variations, the asphalt and the original contract scope works under the original timeframe, 24 July 2024.

"We projected to finish ahead of time which was in March and we think that's what the Honourable Minister meant by finishing in March but that's just the chip-seal surface so we're working now on the asphalt which is the second contract and we should be finished any time soon way before the (C.H.O.G.M.) and before the deadline for the original contract."

Sulamanaia projected that the second contract or asphalt should be completed by June.

Meanwhile, the drive from Fasitoo-Tai towards Faleoolo which was usually bumpy and dusty is now not only clean but smooth and wide with the addition of footpaths on the sides.
