In the lead-up to Mother's Day, Samoa Primary School in Vailele held a special event to honour their mothers and their teachers who are their mothers away from home.

The celebration, which was attended by students from Year One to Year Four, featured cultural dances, poetry, and gift-giving which was two weeks in the making. A heartwarming display of appreciation for the mothers who play a crucial role in the lives of the students.

The students who were visibly emotional expressed their gratitude for their mothers and teachers who supported them through their performances.

Mrs Sola , one of the teachers said in an interview with this newspaper that the engagement from the students was genuine and emotional.

"We as teachers work hard to ensure that our students feel loved and looked after, and their small performances today meant everything to us teachers and parents."

"Students and teachers shed tears when they sang a song about mothers which we rehearsed in the past weeks."

The highlight of the event was the presentation of gifts to the teachers, including floral necklaces that were handmade by the students. The students' gestures were a testament to the importance of mothers in their lives.

The celebration began with a small ceremony, which was attended by some of the mothers of students at the school. The event was held at the school's hall, also known as Falesamoa, and marked the end of the academic week.

Mrs Leuluaialii stated that this acknowledged the work they do as mothers inside schools, she emphasised how valuable it was to welcome the students in a safe environment.

"Today's celebration taught all of us teachers a valuable lesson that it requires more to be a teacher, we are also mothers to our students," she said.

Mother's Day is a significant occasion globally, and it is customary for schools to hold commemorative events to honour their mothers and teachers.

Samoa Primary School's celebration was a fitting tribute to these special women, and it served as a reminder of the importance of motherly love and support.
