An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 on the Richter Scale shook Samoa on Thursday afternoon.

According to the Samoa Meteorology Office, its epicenter was located approximately 180.40 km south-west of Apia and happened at a depth 10 kilometres.

Despite the moderate strength of the earthquake, no tsunami threat was reported for Samoa. This comes as a relief to residents and visitors in the area, who may have been concerned about the potential for a tsunami following the earthquake.

However, some individuals have taken to social media to share their experiences, stating that the tremors were strong enough to be felt while driving.

"That was a strong shake, I was driving and the earth just shook," Salome Heather told this newspaper.

The Samoa Meteorology Office stated the earthquake occurred in the open waters of the Pacific Ocean. This information was confirmed by the authorities following their analysis of seismic data.

As the region continues to experience seismic activity, residents are advised to stay informed and prepared for any future earthquakes. The Samoa Meteorology Office will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as necessary.
