The search for the perpetrator behind a recent drive-by shooting in Sinamoga continues as authorities strive to ensure public safety. 

Richard Kitiona, a 21-year-old resident, found himself hospitalised after sustaining a gunshot wound to his knee during the incident, which unfolded on Saturday night while a Year 10 student was also grazed by the same bullet.

Police Commissioner Auapaau Logoitino Filipo told the Samoa Observer that the police are continuing their investigations into the matter but acknowledged the challenges posed by the limited information currently available.

"The shooter is still in the hiding and we appreciate any information that we may get," he said.

He also stressed that there was a lot of misinformation that police received but they still attended to every lead thoroughly to ensure that the shooter was found and to pose fewer risks to the community.

Asked whether a black rental vehicle which was seen with police escort on Tuesday, related to the case, Auapaau said 'no'.

However, he urged residents of Sinamoga and surrounding areas to come forward with any pertinent information that could aid in identifying the perpetrator.

Speculation surrounding the incident suggests the involvement of a Toyota Vanguard, although Auapaau cautioned against drawing premature conclusions. "Our priority is to establish the facts surrounding the incident," he emphasised in a previous interview.

Meanwhile, the shooting targeted two young men, Richard and Logan Seiuli. The incident has sent shockwaves through the village, raising questions about safety and security.

Preliminary reports suggested that the shooter was operating a Toyota Vanguard, though this detail is yet to be confirmed. Speculation swirled regarding the motive behind the attack, with some suggesting that it may have stemmed from a confrontation on the road.
