The annual Miss Fa'afafine pageant was celebrated last week with seven contestants from various countries and across all ages with the finale held in front of a thousand-strong crowd on Friday.

The Samoa Fa'afafine Association (SFA), which organises the pageant, used it to generate funds for their community work, and also to raise awareness about gender equality.

Miss Samoa Fa’afafine pageant on Friday evening was a thrilling event where the contestants showcased their talent and the atmosphere in the hall was of entertainment and laughter.

This year's pageant theme was "Gender Equality is Diversity". Its main goals were to increase public awareness of the difficulties that the fa'afafine and fa'atama community faces, as well as the prejudice against people based on their gender and sexual orientation

The seven contestants of this year’s pageant are; Eddstar Jaynie Tupolo, Tanu Okesene, Molly Su Tonise, Kitana Lemalu, Fua’ao Wesley, Samora Kake and Annie Kaio

The Samoa Faʻafafine Association (SFA) was founded in 2006, against a background of decades of faʻafafine organising in Samoa. It was initially founded by a group of 10 faʻafafine, who came from professional backgrounds.

The SFA is aligned with several LGBTQ+ organisations, both in the Pacific region and globally, including the International Trans Fund and International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association.

Samoa Faʻafafine Association (SFA) is an organisation based in Samoa, which provides support for LGBTQ+ communities. It organises the annual Miss Faʻafafine pageant, provides sexual health educational programming and advocates for the rights of LGBTQ+ people in Samoa, in particular its faʻafafine communities.
