Firefighters battle fire at Maria's Pharmacy
The Samoa Fire and Emergency Services Authority are trying their best to stop a fire from spreading at Maria’s Pharmacy in Vaea Street in Apia.
The fire is believed to have started around 6am and the fire service was alerted shortly after. The firefighters managed to get into the ceiling of the building and were attempting to douse the fire as adjacent buildings could easily catch fire should the blaze spread.
A clothing store and TV3 are right next door to the pharmacy. The owners of the pharmacy looked on as the firefighters did their work.
The Samoa Observer was at the scene this morning and there were worries that the fire if not controlled could spread.
Meanwhile, Vaea Street was closed to traffic adding to the early morning rush. The cause of the fire is not yet ascertained but it is believed that it started from the back of the pharmacy.
The Electric Power Corporation was also quick to react and switched off the power in the area as well.
This is a developing story, we will bring more details later.
