Customer outburst video goes viral

A video of a customer hurling abuse at a staff member of Burger Bill's restaurant in Vaitele has triggered many criticisms by Samoans on social media.

A footage which was originally uploaded on the Tiktok platform was later posted on Facebook by random Samoans saying this is not the way Samoans are raised to behave and treat other people in public.

The video showed a young woman at the restaurant's drive-through who continuously yelled at the employee for the 30-minute delay of her order when she picked it up.

After over a minute of yelling at the staff, she threw her drink at the employee who was standing inside the restaurant before she told her she was on her way inside.

"Tell the customers that you're going to take a while. Why didn't you come to us? Poor service. It's poor service," she yelled, attracting attention around the restaurant.

The staff of the store approached the woman in a low tone to calm her down but she was not convinced and walked angrily inside the restaurant.

She was stopped at the entrance by a woman who spoke fluent English and told her off for her behaviour towards the employee preventing her from entering the restaurant.

The angry customer explained to the staff when she was calm that she waited for 30 minutes with her spouse and child inside the car.

Meanwhile, the public did not take it for granted when the footage went viral on social media with many saying she shouldn't have treated the staff rudely.

One of the people who posted the video is Junior Niupulusu who was angry at the woman's behaviour.

"You in the clip, use your brain, don't misbehave like this in Samoa. The sad part is, this is happening in Samoa not overseas, you do this kind of behaviour overseas but not in Samoa," he said.

"In Samoa, there is respect that comes first over anything and seeing this female's behaviour explains that she does not have any manners as a Samoan. She put her high-minded mentality first to show people her English (speaking skills) she brought from overseas and not looking at the circumstances of her actions."

Many other Samoans also took to social media to express similar sentiments with some comments on the viral video highlighting the mistreatment of Samoans stemming from language barriers.

"Speaking better English than the staff member must've given her the confidence to treat the poor lady like that and that is just not right. I can tell the employee is not answering back that much because she doesn't speak English as good as her and she should be able to tell that," Amataga Falaniko commented on the video.

Meanwhile, Samoa Observer tried to seek a comment from the employee and management of the Burger Bill on Sunday but it was unsuccessful.

The incident happened last weekend and the video was posted this Sunday.
