Local businesses set up for Motherland concert

Gone are the days when equipment for large concerts is brought in, as local businesses now have the capacity to organise events, such as this Saturday's Motherland concert.

NaYDith Events Hireage (N.E.H.) were tasked to set the stage, sounds and various requirements for what is to be one of the biggest concerts for Samoa yet.

The Manager of the NaYDith Events Hireage, Olotoi Joseph Fa'aolotoi, said the opportunity was given to them through friendly conversations he and the Pasificast officials had in the past years.

He said past festivals that they have catered for include the Seki Fest which was held at the Taumeasina Island Resort.

"This is an opportunity to showcase what local businesses in Samoa can offer. It is one the biggest concerts in Samoa and we will get to put a mark on this. This is history in the making and we are glad to have been able to contribute," he said. "The organisers of Motherland, PasifiCast approached me through social media because the founder and director is a good business friend and also Samoan.

"The big stage as you can see is not yet fully set but that is the only kind on the island. The stage is from overseas when BlueSky wanted to host a UB40 concert in Samoa a few years ago. The concert was cancelled but the best part was that all the needs for big events like these have arrived in Samoa.

"During the 50th Independence Anniversary in 2012, UB40 hosted their concert at Apia Park and brought everything from overseas. They even brought their own stage when Samoa did not have one back then. They also brought their own sound systems and instruments from overseas."

Mr. Fa'aolotoi said all materials including sound systems, tents, the stage and other equipment were all supplied by local businesses with only the artists flying into Samoa from abroad.

"Mr. Corey Keil of the Dawg Professional Audio will be responsible for the sound systems including mics and speakers for the artists' performances," he added.

The Motherland concert will host big-name artists like Fiji, J Boog and Savage and will be held at Apia Park this coming Saturday.
