Between The Lines
TIMELY WORKS
Noticed contractors last week starting work by laying the quarry on the road opposite the Siusega Catholic Church towards Tafaigata before putting on the bitumen. Motorists agree that the work is long overdue, but wonder who makes the call on which roads should be a priority.
ROYAL ROUTE
Perhaps these new road works are lead-up work to prepare the official route for the motorcade of His Majesty King Charles III during next year's Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM). Have to wonder what His Majesty is interested in seeing at Tafaigata?
STATE SECRET
The Samoa Government and the Commonwealth Secretariat have been tight-lipped on the actual date of His Majesty's arrival in Samoa. It has to be a State Secret, as they say, but yours truly can confirm it will be in October 2024. A call to Britain's spy agency MI6 will confirm the date.
SHOP FRIGHT
Have you noticed some of the retail prices in Apia's major supermarkets? Regular customers swear the prices of basic food items have risen by $3 tala or more in the last week. Where is the price regulator when you urgently need one? Now, don't tell us they've also gone for seasonal work!
APRIL FOOLS
Motorists in Samoa are heaving a sigh of relief at the announcement by the Finance Minister on Friday to keep petrol prices unchanged for April. The funny thing was her statement was sent on 31 March. Imagine if it was sent on the 1st of April, no one would have believed her!
