In support of Daniel Leo
Dear Editor,
Re: Daniel Leo’s fight for justice
He is exactly right. I was shocked when I saw the World Rugby Council’s last group photo, and practically every face was white (SA and Japan notwithstanding).
How on earth does that reflect the sport’s growing globalization?
Why are Georgia and Romania on the council and not Fiji and Samoa, who have both made two World Cup quarter-finals and beaten tier 1 nations on numerous occasions?
Even Tonga has beaten Australia and France.
Pacific Islanders have become to rugby what African-Americans are to NFL - dominating on the field but invisible at administration level.
The fact the rugbydom seems to have lost confidence in SA as a World Cup host nation seems to have coincided directly with the increasing involvement of the non-white community in the sport there, if we’re honest about it.
