It doesn’t breach the Constitution

Dear Editor,

Re: Church defiant

Well, if Rev. Vavatau feels so strongly about it, take the matter to Court and argue that the constitutional guarantee of freedom of religion is being breached by the government.

I would love to see how he gets on when all the other churches in the country have no objection to this law.

I would argue it isn’t breaching the right of religion for the E.F.K.S. minister to carry on his duties.

This tax is not preventing the minister from serving his pastoral duties.

It is not preventing him preaching. It is not preventing the church from assembling every Sunday and carrying on all their other activities.

Therefore, in my opinion, it isn’t a breach of the Constitutional guarantee of freedom of religion.
