The problem with the bass
Dear Editor,
Some weeks ago, I wrote a Letter to the Editor (published), but the “powers that be” had no interest. It was about loud music, or, to put a finer point on it, teeth-rattling bass.
I live in Alafua, and each night and morning, a vehicle (bus, I am sure) drives around the block with bass loud enough to wake me. There is also a church hall that belts out the bass for about an hour from 6.30 nearly every night.
It is so bad that it causes physical discomfort. As I am sure you are aware, loud music, especially bass, is illegal and some years ago a law/regulation was passed to allow police to remove the equipment from the offending vehicle. This is still going on, so obviously, the police do not have the resources to do this.
This occurs regularly around town, also with traffic cops just standing watching the offending vehicle drive past! As regards premises, the law/regulations state that noise cannot be heard past the Fence line. MNRE, I suppose.
So with no luck via the press, I wrote a letter to the Police Commissioner and hand-delivered it. This was on the 13th of March. I delivered it to the Reception counter at Police HQ. Well, what a surprise! No acknowledgement and the “Bass goes on”!
